MBIE has released guidance advising that healthy homes compliance needs to be checked at regular inspections and at the end of each tenancy. We can help make this a seamless process for you.
Why you need a Healthy Homes assessment?
The Healthy Homes Standards (part of the Residential Tenancies Act) became law on 1 July 2019. They require all rental homes to comply with specific regulations regarding insulation, heating, ventilation, moisture ingress and drainage, and draught stopping.
All private rentals must comply within 90 days of any new or renewed tenancy after 1 July 2021, with all private rentals complying by 1 July 2024. All boarding houses must comply by 1 July 2021. All houses rented by Kāinga Ora (formerly Housing New Zealand) and registered Community Housing Providers must comply by 1 July 2023.
Landlords are responsible for maintaining and improving the quality of their rental properties. These standards will help ensure landlords have healthier, safer properties and lower maintenance costs for their investments. The standards will also make it easier for tenants to keep their homes warm and dry.

Healthy Homes Assessment
What is a Healthy Home assessment?
The Healthy Homes Standards are part of the Residential Tenancies Act. It requires all rental homes to comply with specific regulations regarding insulation, heating, ventilation, moisture ingress and drainage and draught stopping.
In a Healthy Homes Assessment our technicians will visit the property and complete a full external and internal audit of your property against the five standards of the Healthy Homes regulations. Once complete, you’ll receive a full report documenting any required work to bring your property up to compliance and a 13A Compliance Statement that you are required to give to the tenant with the tenancy agreement. You’ll also gain access to our internal system for your specific property where you can upload evidence of work completed and generate an updated report and compliance statement at no additional cost.
